The Metallurgical Laboratory of Scurcola Marsicana was established with the aim of positioning itself as a specialized analysis center for destructive testing on metallurgical components, intended to accurately assess the quality of materials and manufacturing techniques, in order to ensure the proper functioning of infrastructure.

Thanks to state-of-the-art equipment, the laboratory is able to precisely monitor material characteristics, thereby ensuring the safety and durability of infrastructure and contributing to the effective maintenance of the railway system.

We are also pleased to announce that we have obtained official accreditation from ACCREDIA, which formally certifies our commitment to excellence and quality in the field of railway maintenance.

We have implemented a complete range of technologically advanced machinery, designed to guarantee highly precise metallurgical analyses and processing. Below is an overview of our equipment:

  • Metallurgical cutting machine: an essential tool for the precise cutting of metallurgical specimens. It is capable of sectioning IPE beams and is one of the largest of its kind available in Italy.
  • Specimen polishing machine: enables optimal surface preparation, making specimens perfectly smooth and ready for microstructural analysis.
  • Brinell and Vickers hardness testers: provide accurate hardness measurements using different methods, depending on the nature of the material.
  • Microscope and stereomicroscope: used for micro- and macrostructural analyses, especially in combination with acid etching tests. They allow the observation of extremely fine details, which are essential for evaluating metallurgical behavior, also thanks to the use of latest-generation software.
  • Optical emission spectrometer (quantometer): equipment for the chemical analysis of metals, capable of accurately determining elemental composition and verifying compliance with standards.
  • Acid etching area: a latest-generation workstation equipped with airtight enclosure and fume extraction system to ensure maximum operator safety.

Thanks to this comprehensive set of technologies, our laboratory stands out as a benchmark for metallurgical analysis and precision railway maintenance. Every process is carried out with rigor and attention to detail, ensuring reliable results for our clients.

Accreditation in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2018 provides an additional guarantee of quality and competence, further strengthening our ability to support the increasingly stringent demands of the railway sector.
